Know Your Enemy

An Inspirational Devotion From Pastor Brian

June 11, 2025

Let me say this loud and clear. You have to know who your enemy is. The Bible makes it clear that we have a real enemy, and his name is the devil. He’s not playing games. He wants to destroy your life and my life too. That’s why we have to ask the Holy Spirit to help us. We need His power, His boldness, and His help to see the tricks and traps the devil sets for us.

Peter tells us to be sober minded and to stay alert. In other words, we can’t be lazy in our walk with Jesus. When we let our guard down, that’s when the enemy tries to come in and do the most damage.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the names the Bible gives to the devil. He’s called the serpent, the tempter, the prince of this world, the evil one, and even the accuser of the brethren. Each one of those names shows us something about how he works. He tempts. He distracts. He accuses. And he lies.

There’s a saying I’ve heard before: Satan’s attractions are Satan’s distractions. Just because something looks good doesn’t mean it’s from God. Sometimes those things are just traps in disguise to pull us away from God’s plan for our life.

But here’s the good news. If you’ve asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins, your past is in the past. Your sins are under the blood of Jesus Christ. The enemy may try to bring up your past, but God says, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Why? Because Jesus already paid the price on the cross. We can stand free and forgiven.

So yes, we have a real enemy, but we also have a real Savior who already won the victory.

Until next time, remember to take time out for God, because God always has time for you!

Sticky Statement:
When you know your enemy, you can stand strong in victory.

Questions To Think About

  1. Are there any “attractions” in your life right now that might actually be distractions?
  2. How can you stay spiritually alert each day?
  3. What lies has the enemy tried to use against you that God has already forgiven?

Prayer For Today:

"Heavenly Father, thank You for the victory we have through Jesus Christ. I ask for Your help today to be alert and strong. Help me to see the devil’s tricks and not fall for his lies. Thank You that my sins are covered by the blood of Jesus. Help me walk in freedom and truth today. In Jesus’ name, amen."

Thank you for sharing this devotion with your friends.
