Hearing God's Voice

“Is That You, God?”

An Inspirational Devotion From Pastor Brian

Have you ever asked yourself, “Was that God speaking to me, or was that just my own thought?”

I believe we’ve all been in that place. Especially when we’re seeking God’s direction. When we are trying to make the right decision. When we want to follow His will.

That’s where the question comes in. Is this God, or is this me?

Today, I want to begin a new series called Hearing God’s Voice. I believe this is one of the most important topics we can talk about in our walk with Christ.

We live in a world full of noise. Our lives are busy. Our schedules are packed. And so many things are fighting for our time and attention. But if we want to hear from God, we must learn how to slow down and listen.

Psalm 46:10 tells us to “Be still and know that I am God.”

What a powerful verse. But let’s be honest. Being still is not always easy. It is a discipline. One that goes against our natural tendency to rush from one thing to another.

That is why I believe the best time to hear from God is in the early hours of the day. Before the phone starts ringing. Before the meetings and classes begin. Before the distractions take over.

It takes commitment to get up earlier and spend time in prayer and in the Word. It is not always convenient. But if we want to hear God's voice, this is how we prepare our hearts to listen.

Now, when I talk about hearing the voice of God, I am not necessarily talking about an audible voice. God can speak that way if He chooses, but more often He speaks in that still, small voice. That gentle whisper in your spirit. That confirmation through His Word. That peace you feel when you are in step with His will.

God is speaking. Every single day.

The question is, are we listening?

Until next time, remember to take time out for God, because God always has time for you!

Sticky Statement:

God is always speaking. The question is, are we listening?

Questions To Think About

  1. What distractions do I need to remove so I can better hear God's voice?
  2. When was the last time I clearly felt God speaking to my heart?
  3. How can I create a daily habit of stillness to grow closer to God?

Prayer For Today:

"Heavenly Father, Thank You for being a God who speaks to Your people. Help me to slow down and be still in Your presence. Open my ears to hear Your voice and my heart to obey what You are saying. Give me the discipline to seek You daily and the wisdom to discern Your guidance. I want to walk closely with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen."
