Wise Counsel, Divine Direction
An Inspirational Devotion From Pastor Brian
May 28, 2025
We’ve been talking about how to hear God’s voice. First, we said God speaks through His written Word, the Bible. Second, God speaks through the Holy Spirit, Who lives in every believer. And third, God speaks through other people. But not just anyone. God speaks through godly, influential people. These are people who love Him, know His Word, and walk in wisdom.
This could be a parent, a grandparent, a pastor, a Sunday school teacher, a coach, or even a friend. God uses people like this to speak encouragement, correction, and direction into our lives. But we must be careful who we listen to. Not every voice should have influence. That’s why we need people who show godly character, who live what they believe, and who help us grow closer to Jesus.
Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel, purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.” In other words, godly advice helps us stay on the right path.
I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without the people God placed in my life. I’ve had mentors who guided me, challenged me, and helped shape the person I’ve become. Many times, I’ve come to them with questions and trusted their wisdom. That kind of influence is a gift from God.
So here’s a challenge for you. Ask God to place the right people in your life. People who will hold you accountable. People who will speak truth to you with love. And ask God to help you be that kind of person for someone else.
And as we spend this time together each day, I pray that God will use me in a small way to speak into your life.
Until next time, remember to take time out for God, because God always has time for you!
Sticky Statement:
The right voices will lead you closer to God’s voice.
Questions To Think About
Prayer For Today:
"Heavenly Father, thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life who have spoken truth, love, and encouragement. Help me to listen to voices that align with Your Word. Give me wisdom to recognize godly counsel and courage to follow it. And Lord, use me to be that voice of encouragement for someone else. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen."
